There’s a sentence in We Heart’s feature on Nia that we keep coming back to: “an independent bakery by day and cocktail bar by evening.” It sounds simple, but it captures something we care about deeply — a space that belongs fully to the morning and fully to the night.
Lisa Davidson’s piece, published in June 2024, traces the full story of Nia: the mission to create one of the world’s great bakeries while supporting vulnerable communities in Colombia. The collaboration with chef Talia Richard of Copenhagen’s Hart Bageri. The transformation of a former public notary office in Cartagena’s old town by design studio Crearq.
“Architects María Adelaida Herrera and Miguel León uncovered layers of drywall and partitions to reveal essential elements of Cartagena’s domestic architecture.”
— We Heart, June 2024
What We Heart understood — and what we hope every guest feels the moment they walk in — is that the space and the food are inseparable. The fuchsias and magentas in the tiles reference pomegranate. The crescent sofas mirror a raspberry cut from above. The tapestry by Ángela Ramos over the display case is woven like fruit tissue.
Every pastry we make is a continuation of that conversation. Come see it for yourself.
